World Cup!

It was World Cup time in Vail!

Most of the races were actually held in Beaver Creek, but all the festivities were in Vail. We skied at Beaver Creek to watch the Men’s Downhill event. Later in the evening we attended the awards ceremony outside the Solaris hotel in Vail. It was shocking how many people attended the races.  It seemed that half of Europe showed up.

One of the coolest parts of the World Cup was riding the lifts with the athletes and seeing them ski normal terrain during their time off. After riding up with a Belgian slalom skier, we saw a Czech skier absolutely flying down the mountain. Their skier didn’t slow down for anything; She couldn’t be bothered by moguls or children. Jen approved.

In addition to the World Cup being in town, so was unseasonable warmth. It was right around 50 degrees every day. True spring skiing conditions… Including the requisite mud. Jen had a run in with some of that mud, which led to a less than graceful descent of a cliff. It is now known as Mud Cliff.

After Mud Cliff we changed out terrain up and worked on jumps instead.
